# Import data from GA4 and other tools

> Import your history from Google Analytics 4, Universal Analytics, Plausible, Fathom or Matomo so your Privatus Analytics charts don't start from zero.

Imported data shows alongside what Privatus Analytics collects, so your charts
don't start from zero. Turn on **Show imported data** in the Overview's
toolbar (it appears once a site has a finished import). Imported data
doesn't count toward usage. Each finished import also adds a
[note](/docs/dashboard/notes) spanning the imported dates.

## Google Analytics 4

1. **Imports → New import → Google Analytics 4** (Imports is in the site
   menu and in Site settings).
2. Sign in with Google and grant **read-only** access.
3. Choose the GA4 property.
4. Choose the date range. Import up to the day before your Privatus Analytics
tracking started, so days aren't counted twice.
5. Start the import. It runs in the background.

We import daily aggregates: visitors, visits, pageviews, bounce rate and
duration, in total and by page, source, country, device, browser and
operating system. GA4 events and campaigns aren't imported.
GA4's own definitions are kept, so imported numbers won't match
Privatus Analytics-collected numbers exactly (see
[why numbers differ](/docs/metrics/ga4-differences)).

## CSV imports

Choose a template and upload the CSV file. Columns are matched to the
template automatically. If the file doesn't match (for example a missing
date or metric column), the import fails with the reason and nothing is
kept, so you can fix the file and try again.

| Template | Export from |
|---|---|
| Universal Analytics | UA custom report exports |
| Fathom | Fathom's CSV export |
| Simple Analytics | Simple Analytics' export |
| Plausible | A CSV file from Plausible's export (unzip it first) |
| Matomo | Matomo's export |
| Umami | Umami's export |
| Clicky | Clicky's export |

## Managing imports

The import list shows status (queued, running, complete, failed), rows
and the date span. Deleting an import removes its data but doesn't touch
anything Privatus Analytics collected.
