The Privatus Analytics app for Slack

Send Privatus Analytics alerts to a Slack channel with Add to Slack, and see today's visitors of a site with the /privatus-analytics command.

Warning: The app is not in the Slack Marketplace. Don't install an app called Privatus Analytics from the marketplace: it is not ours, whoever published it. Use the Add to Slack button in Privatus Analytics, described below, until this page says the app is listed.

The Slack app does two things: it delivers your alerts to a Slack channel without copying a webhook URL, and its /privatus-analytics command shows today's numbers of a site. Slack channels are on Pro and up.

Add to Slack#

  1. Open the Alerts page, then Notification channels, and click Add channel.
  2. Choose Slack and click Add to Slack. You need a role that may change alerts (owner, admin, editor or analyst).
  3. On Slack's screen, pick the channel and click Allow.

You come back to your channels with a new Slack channel named after the Slack channel. Pick it in any alert rule, and use Send test to check it. Pasting an incoming webhook URL still works the same way.

The /privatus-analytics command#

In any Slack channel of the connected Slack workspace, type:

text
/privatus-analytics example.com

The reply shows the site's visitors and pageviews so far today, in the site's time zone, with a link to its dashboard. Only you see it. With one site you can leave the domain out, and the site id (pa_...) works too. With several sites and no domain, the reply lists them.

Anyone in the Slack workspace can use the command for the sites of the workspaces connected to it, so connect a Slack workspace only if its members may see those numbers.

Removing the app#

Remove the app in Slack (Apps → Privatus Analytics → Remove app). Its Slack channels are then deleted in Privatus Analytics and taken off every alert rule. Deleting the channel in Privatus Analytics stops alerts to it, while the command keeps working until the app is removed from Slack.

What the app keeps#

The incoming webhook URL, encrypted, as for a pasted one, and the Slack workspace's id and name, to know which sites the command may show. No Slack token is kept, and nothing about your Slack messages or members is read.
