Surveys

On-site surveys that ask your visitors without tracking them

Your analytics show what visitors do. A survey asks them why. Put one question or a few in a small card on your own site and read the answers next to your traffic. One survey is free.

No card required. Set up in 60 seconds.

No cookie, no visitor id

The card sets no cookie and writes nothing to the device. A response holds the page, the device type and the country, and nothing else.

Six answer types

Open text, one choice, several choices, a rating, an NPS score, and yes or no. Up to 5 questions, one per screen.

Asked at the right moment

On page load, after a delay, after scrolling, when someone is about to leave, or when your own code asks for it.

Asked at most once a day

Each visitor is shown a card at most once a day, and only one card is ever shown at a time.

Start from a template

Five templates give you a complete survey to change. Then choose the pages, the devices and the share of visitors that are asked, where the card sits and the dates it runs between.

  • Exit survey, NPS, Satisfaction (CSAT), Was this page helpful? and Pricing page
  • Path rules for an exact path, everything under a path, or a pattern with *
  • Targeting is decided on our servers, so your rules are not readable from your page source
  • Reword a question later and it keeps the answers it already has

The results of an exit survey with 30 responses: a one-choice question with the count and share of each answer, and the open-text answers to a second question.
Ask your visitors, with no cookie.

Results per question

Every question gets its own card. Choices show counts and shares, a rating shows its average, and NPS shows the score with promoters, passives and detractors. Open text lists the 100 most recent answers.

  • Responses and how many were finished, for 7, 28 or 90 days or all time
  • The top 10 pages, devices and countries by number of responses
  • The same report over the API and MCP

Private by design

A survey can never ask for a name or an email address, because there is no question type for one. Anything typed into a text box goes through your site's PII scrubber before it is stored. Do Not Track, Global Privacy Control and the visitor opt-out are honored according to your site's settings. The surveys docs list every stored field.

By plan

Free includes one survey in the workspace and 10 responses a month. At the limit the survey stops being offered, so nobody is shown a card whose answer would be thrown away. Pro and Business have unlimited surveys and responses. Business adds Themes with AI, which groups the answers to an open-text question into up to 12 themes, each with a count, a sentiment and an example.

Watch: Website surveys: ask visitors why they leave, no tracking (2:02)

Website surveys that ask visitors why they leave, with no tracking: a small card on your site, no cookie, never a name or an email, so people tell the truth.

Transcript

Most visitors leave your pricing page without buying. Why? Your analytics can't tell you. Your visitors can.

I'm James, founder of Privatus Analytics. Let me show you how to just ask them.

Numbers tell you what people do. They never tell you why. So you sit with the pricing page and guess. Too expensive? Confusing? Missing a feature? You pick one, change it, and wait. Nothing improves, because the real reason was something you'd never have guessed. Maybe they couldn't find the refund policy. Meanwhile, the people who know the reason leave your site every day, and nobody asks them. You tried a survey tool once. It wanted a name and an email before anyone could speak, so almost nobody did. It dropped a cookie to make sure people were only asked once, and followed them around to do it. Another banner, another script, another bill. And the few who did reply had a form in front of them that felt like a sales call, so they told you what was polite instead of what was true.

With Privatus Analytics, pick a ready-made survey. An exit survey, a quick rating, or a question on your pricing page. Choose the moment. After a few seconds, after scrolling, or right as someone is about to leave. A small, friendly card appears on your own site. A survey here can never ask for a name or an email. Nobody is tracked, nothing is stored on their device, so your visitors can speak freely, and they do. Watch the responses come in. Ratings, scores and choices, summed up, and written responses in your visitors' own words. AI can sort what they wrote into themes, so you see the big reasons at a glance. It's already part of the script on your site, so there's nothing new to install.

Now you know why people leave. You fix the thing that's actually stopping them, not the thing you guessed. And you got it without tracking a single person.

Questions and answers

Do survey responses count toward my plan?

No. Survey responses are not events and never count toward your monthly events.

How does the survey get on my pages?

Through the ask module of the tracking code you already have. The snippet in your site settings includes it. Leave the module out and nothing is loaded or requested.

How can a visitor be asked only once a day without a cookie?

We keep a marker in memory under the same daily key that counts visitors. The key is never stored, its salt rotates every day and the marker expires at the end of the UTC day.
