Add cookieless analytics to Joomla 4, 5 or 6 with our optional system plugin or by adding one snippet to a child template, with no cookies.

# Add Privatus Analytics to Joomla

The plugin is optional. The setup under
[Without the plugin](#without-the-plugin) needs no download.

## With the plugin

1. [Contact us](/contact) for the plugin zip,
   `plg_system_privatusanalytics-1.0.0.zip`.
2. In the administrator go to **System → Install → Extensions** and upload
   the zip.
3. Go to **System → Manage → Plugins**, find **System - Privatus Analytics**
   and open it.
4. Paste your site id, set the plugin to **Enabled** and save.

Reload your site, view the page source and look for `/js/pa.js` in the head.
The plugin needs Joomla 4.4, 5 or 6 and PHP 8.1 or later. It prints the
script on the site only, never in the administrator. You can leave out
signed-in users or chosen user groups, exclude paths and set the other
tracker [attributes](/docs/tracker/attributes) from the plugin's options.

If you use a caching or optimization tool, leave `pa.js` out of any
combine or delay feature.

## Without the plugin

Edit a child template so Joomla updates don't overwrite your change. Go to
**System → Templates → Site Templates**, open **Cassiopeia Details and Files**
and create a child template. Copy the parent's `index.php` into the child
with **New File**, then add the snippet before `</head>`:

With the plugin#

Contact us for the plugin zip, plg_system_privatusanalytics-1.0.0.zip.
In the administrator go to System → Install → Extensions and upload the zip.
Go to System → Manage → Plugins, find System - Privatus Analytics and open it.
